Overview

Quantity surveyors specialise in survey operations, learning to explain the methods of measuring items and quantities of earthwork for road construction.

What you will learn

In this course you will learn about general principles of quantity and cost in civil works. You will also learn relevant terminologies, how to record quantities of items from given drawings, describe components of buildings and engineering structures, and describe standard specifications of each item of works. You will also be taught how to prepare material statements and analyses of rates for major item of works, explain how to determine quantity of earthwork for road construction, and how to execute the plan. The course will also teach you how to evaluate property and calculate rents, as well as how to use spread sheet software to help in quantity surveying.

Training Outcome

After completing this course you will be able to estimate quantities for various forms of work from drawings, prepare detailed estimates for residential, commercial and industrial buildings, estimates for water supply and sewerage works, and estimates for roads and road structures (Culverts and Bridges Budges). You will also have learnt how to estimate for annual and special repair during construction and use computer software to estimate the cost of a project.
